Practical product data tools, with careful boundaries

Why this toolkit exists

Product data work frequently crosses several systems: a GTIN begins in master data, appears in a barcode, moves through catalog feeds and may become the primary key inside a Digital Link. Small format errors can break that chain, while vague claims about “validation” can hide what was actually tested.

ProductPassKit makes those checks visible. Simple GTIN calculations use small, independently tested TypeScript functions. Complex Application Identifier and Digital Link processing uses the official GS1 Barcode Syntax Engine through a narrow abstraction layer. Results distinguish structural validity from licensing, ownership, website behavior, resolver conformance and print quality.

Local-first by design

Version 1 has no accounts, database or identifier history. Tool inputs are processed in the browser and are not intentionally sent to ProductPassKit servers, analytics or external APIs. Optional analytics is consent-based and records only interaction metadata such as which tool succeeded—not the values submitted.

Standards registry

Standards and reference software evolve. ProductPassKit keeps the baselines used by the application in one maintainable registry rather than scattering version claims across every tool page.

Digital Product Passport direction

Future ProductPassKit modules may support readiness checks, hosted product passports and resolver services. Version 1 deliberately starts with the identity and syntax foundation. It does not claim to certify regulatory compliance, issue GTINs or operate an official DPP registry.
