EAN barcode data and GTIN identity

EAN-8 and EAN-13 are retail barcode symbologies. The numeric identifiers they carry are commonly described as GTIN-8 and GTIN-13. Keeping the terminology distinct helps separate product identity from the barcode used to encode it.

Examples

96385074 → 00000096385074A valid EAN-8 / GTIN-8 receives six leading filler zeroes.

How conversion works

The tool detects the input length, validates the GS1 modulo-10 check digit and then pads the valid value on the left to 14 digits. It does not modify the source check digit or infer product information.

When to use the 14-digit result

Use the fixed-width form where a GS1 data structure expects a 14-digit trade item identifier, including new Digital Link expressions of AI (01). Retain the original format where an EAN barcode workflow specifically requires it.
